Unknown and Unknowable vs Known and Knowable

CrossFit's South Central Regionals are 3 weeks away and it could be easy to get caught in the "self-created pressure" of the competition.

This week I had several reminders from "the universe" that today is just that...TODAY. Your
performance today doesn't define you - your experience today doesn't define you or negate who you are - it's just where you were TODAY and tomorrow will be different...for better or worse!

My goal is to travel to Cali as an individual competitor BUT the truth is I don't know how the Regionals weekend will end up, how I will perform and ultimately how I will place.

But the Known and Knowable is this - I am a different person than I was 1 yr ago

  • I train differently

  • I think differently

  • I physically look different

  • I act "as if"....rather than hoping or wishing

  • I have done the preparation and put in time where time was needed

  • I perform at a higher level

In many ways I've already done what I set out to do! Remember the journey and appreciate the outcome.

Ingrid Kantola, Lindsey Smith, Jen Cardella, Alex Janss, Megan Parsons, Carey Kepler - you probably don't know that this week each of you changed my attitude and influenced me to appreciate TODAY and remember the journey. Thank you.

One and done....

I should say 1 MORE and done!

We've got one more workout and about a week before the top 60 South Central men/women are determined (pending site malfunctions....).

I decided with 11.1 that I was NOT going to re-do any of the sectional WODS. I wanted to focus on "game day" - "one shot" performances and while temptation aka: EGO has gotten in my face a few times -- I am sticking to my guns. I am happy with my performances and proud to represent the South Central women with a top 10 standing.
Sectionals 2011 has been an experience. Some loved it - some hated it - everyone learned something.

I look forward to the lights, camera, action and ENERGY that comes with the weekend competitions. I thrive in that environment - 1 day 4 workouts GOOD - 2 days 6 workouts EVEN BETTER!
Train smart - work the weaknesses - find YOUR right mental path - and look forward to moving out of Sectionals 2011. As I've said before.... ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

Who's with me?
What did the 6 week sectional format teach you?

Just in case....

....I need a little extra support this weekend.

(hard to imagine considering the number of CrossFit Central clients who are coming to show their support)

My own personal cheering section just arrived at my door. This is one time I am glad to wear a size 11 - just means more room for my fans :)

If you can't make it to the event but want to check out how the athletes are doing visit SICFIT for live updates.

Upside Down! Conquering my fear!

Fear can be a good thing. It's an instinct that prevents us from doing stupid things BUT fear is not always rational. While my fears often protects me from the pain of a crushed ego, they also keeps me from the exhilaration of victory and success.

When I was younger, I QUIT gymnastics twice because I couldn't do a cartwheel. Twenty some years later, I am yet to master the cartwheel and continue to harbor a fear of going upside down - Cartwheels, diving off a diving board, handstands, flips of any kind....
My fear IS silly - it IS not rational - it IS a MAJOR obstacle on my road to the 2010 CrossFit Games.

The dreaded HSPU (handstand push-up) has been something I've avoided for months. Frustrated by my earlier attempts I swore them off! I protected my ego but didn't do much to reach my goal.
Last Monday I asked Megan to hold me accountable for attempting the HSPU as part of my warm up. Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday - I struggled to kick myself on the wall - let's not even talk about actually attempting the push-up part - I was glad to just turn myself upside down.

I saw Friday's WOD included HSPU and figured there was no time like the present to conquer my fear! I completed 13 rounds in 20 min - 2 HSPU unassisted and successfully finished the workout without giving a second thought to flipping upside down on the wall!
My fear WAS silly - It WAS not rational - It WAS a major obstacle on the road to the 2010 CrossFit Games.

I have the strength - I have the determination - and now I have faced my fear. It's amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it!

What are you going to conquer in the upcoming year?

Support!...

Support: the act of bearing the weight of or strengthening - to be behind - aiding the cause or interests of.
On Wednesday, I am going to Aroma's for the 2009 CrossFit Games to support the strongest team I've ever had in my life - both physically and spiritually. They have put in the hard work - the dedication - they have the desire - and they will have the support of myself and 50+ CrossFit Central troopers.
Good Luck - Carey, Jeremy, Lance, Crystal and the entire CrossFit Central Affiliate Team!
