Re-Learning the squat at Jack and Adam's Relentless Bootcamp

Recently, the 6am Jack and Adams Relentless Bootcamp has been refocusing on squats!
Seems easy - just sit down then stand back up- Right?

The photo below reminds of how something that was so 'easy' at a kiddo, must often be relearned as an adult.

This is a perfect full-depth squat - Exemplifying all of the following:

  • Weight on heels
  • Lumbar curve maintained
  • Chest up
  • Butt travels back and down
  • Bottom of Squat is below parallel
  • Knees track parallel to feet
  • Return to full extension at the hips and knees to complete movement
  • Head position is neutral

If I've said it once, I've said it 100 times each class - Weight in your heels!! Squatting with your heels off the floor increases the torque in your lower back, puts additional stress on your knees, and can even cause plantar fascitis - not to mention when your heels come off the floor you can simply lose your balance!
So why does this become such a struggle for many of us? As years pass we put ourselves in positions that lead to weak glutes, tight hips and/or ankles, all factors limiting the ease in which we can squat!

Now you tell me - Is Neil practicing the perfect squat or sneaking in some extra rest/recovery?

We currently have 3 spots remaining on the 6am Jack and Adam's bootcamp. This is a fun crew of men and women and we'd love to have you join us for April programs starting next week.

This one's for the ladies!!

First of all.... I AM SORRY! I think this is the longest gap in posts I've ever had. No excuses - just time for me to get back on track. Thanks to all of you who called me out this weekend for being gone so long :)

Have all of you read Cherie Chan's post about " Why CrossFit Ruined My Life" ?- if not, go do it! This weekend I was reminded of exactly what she meant when she says:
Because of CrossFit, I will never be alone: There will always be friends I should spend time with, athletes, I need to train and new people I want to get to know.

This weekend CrossFit Central took a crew to CrossFit Champions for the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Obliteration. I was kinda excited and kinda wishing I could sleep in my own bed and have a 'weekend' (whatever that means). However, when we arrived at Pam and Matt's new place I was reminded of why
CrossFit Is What I Do!

Chardonnay Poole 1st - me - Emily Baker 3rd

I love the energy - I love the workouts - I love the competition - I LOVE THE LADIES I've gotten to know over the past year of competition and CrossFit.

We don't see each other very often but secretly 'stalk' each other online - inspire each other with Facebook posts - educate each other thru blogs - trade fashion tips thru CrossFit photos - and once every few months we come together like long lost friends (sometimes trying to match a name with a familiar face).

So, Lori, Katie, Leah, Wendy, Laura (x2), Pam, Emily, Chardonnay, Crystal, Jennifer, Brittnay, Lindsay, Stephanie, Shelby....(and I am sure I left a couple of you out!) THANK YOU for making my weekend great.

Just for fun, here is a video of me and Chardonnay in the first WOD. See more pictures and videos from the weekend on SICFIT
